Montañas de Oro is a testament to the legacy and dedication of Marespi Farm, a family-owned enterprise nestled in Costa Rica’s Brunca region. Founded in the 1960s by Rafael Marín and Silvia Espinoza, Marespi began as a small family operation rooted in a love for coffee cultivation and a deep respect for the land. Over the decades, the family’s passion evolved into a respected name in the Costa Rican coffee industry, known for its commitment to quality, traceability, and sustainability.

Today, the Marespi family—now spanning three generations—continues to uphold that legacy, blending traditional farming knowledge with modern innovation. Their farm, located in the lush Chirripó Mountain area, benefits from volcanic soil, consistent rainfall, and pristine air. At altitudes between 1600 and 1800 meters, the steep hills and cool mountain breezes create the perfect conditions for producing exceptional coffee.

Marespi’s connection to the local community is woven into every cup they produce. They work hand-in-hand with local farmers, many of whom have partnered with Marespi for decades. This collaboration ensures that each lot reflects not just the farm’s dedication, but also the spirit of the people who grow and harvest the cherries.

For this particular lot, the family has selected 100% Catuai cherries, which undergo the Lavado Crema (washed) process—a method that enhances the coffee’s natural sweetness and balance while showcasing the best of the region’s terroir. The result is a cup with a medium body and bright, balanced acidity, bursting with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and delicate floral undertones.

With a cupping score of 86, Montañas de Oro captures the essence of Costa Rica’s Brunca region: a harmony of tradition and innovation, community and craftsmanship, and a taste of the land itself.
