About this coffee
Montañas de Oro is a testament to the heritage and dedication of Marespi farm, a family business located in the Brunca region in Costa Rica. Founded in the 1960s by Rafael Marín and Silvia Espinoza, Marespi began as a small family farm, built on a love of growing coffee and a deep respect for the land. Over the decades, the family’s passion grew into a respected name in Costa Rica’s coffee industry, known for its commitment to quality, traceability, and sustainability.
Today, the Marespi family — now in its third generation — continues to carry this heritage forward, blending traditional growing knowledge with modern innovation. Their farm, located in the lush mountainous region of Chirripó, benefits from volcanic soil, steady rainfall, and clean air. At altitudes between 1,600 and 1,800 meters, the steep slopes and cool mountain breezes create ideal conditions for producing an exceptional coffee.
Marespi’s connection to the local community shows in every cup of coffee they produce. They work closely with farmers in the area, many of them partners for decades. This collaboration ensures that every lot reflects not only the farm’s dedication, but also the spirit of the people who grow and harvest the coffee cherries.
For this special lot, the family selected 100% Catuai cherries, which go through the Lavado Crema (washed) process — a method that amplifies the coffee’s natural sweetness and balance, highlighting the distinct character of the local terroir. The result is a superbly balanced cup, with medium body and bright, lively acidity. Enjoy decadent notes of chocolate brownie, vibrant cherry and delicate floral aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle, rounded out by a refreshing citrus note.
With a cupping score of 86, Montañas de Oro captures the essence of the Brunca region in Costa Rica: a harmony of tradition and innovation, community and craftsmanship, and a true taste of the land it comes from.
